Romany and Romilly
WDTY of Romany and Romilly, both for girls?I like Roman for a boy, but since watching an episode of Little Angels (I think) with a little girl called Romany, I like it. Any nicknames for it?Romilly would be pronounced ROM-illy, with the nickname Millie.

I like Romany, but not Romilly...

To tell the truth, I'm not a huge fan of either. Romany is an old-fashioned word for a Roma (gipsy). Romilly looks weird and made-up to me.

I like Romilly a lot, though Millie would not be my nn of choice. Romilly is one of those names that I'm really watching to see how far trends will carry it. Just a few years ago you never heard it. Then Emma Thompson used it, and now it seems like I see it all the time. The newest baby at my church is a Romilly Sarah, for example, and I know of one two-year-old Romilly online. I don't like Romany at all. It makes me uncomfortable in the same way that names like Cheyenne and Cherokee do.

Romany sounds too much like Romania for my taste. And for some reason I don't like any Rom- names, maybe because I think of Roma (gypsys), which is Romi in Croatian.

Romilly is a French town, maybe a surname too. I have never seen it on someone as a first name. Romany is a bit weird. Romane is used on girls, and Roman on boys, though.

I'm not a fan of Romany because although I do know some so called 'Romany gypsies' it wouldn't feel right to name my child that as it's not my own culture.I like Roman for a boy though :)Romilly is nice enough, I'd prefer the nn Romy, as Millie is so popular / trendy where I live.

Sorry, but I dislike both. Romany is too made-up. Though I do love Roman for a boy and I think Roma works well for a girl.Romilly is nmsaa, and I dislike Millie (my cousin had a snake named Millie so that's all I can think about)

I'm really confused where the sudden "Let's use Romilly as a first name for a girl" came from. I've seen it so many places lately. I just want to be like, "BUT it's a surname..."That said, I don't like it.Romany isn't my favorite either, sounds very close to Romilly.Sorry if this isn't want you wanted to hear.Millie is a cute nick name though.

Romany is something quite new to me. I think it could grow on me. The possible nickname could be Roma or Ronnie (I like Roma more).
Romilly is gorgeous and I like the nickname Milly!
