Elisabeth/Elizabeth
My mother named me Elisabeth with an S, trying to be original. She added an E to Kay (Kaye) also trying to be unique. No one really calls me by a nickname. My grandmother is the only true person I'll allow to call me Lizzie. I'll let a few people at school slide by, but only if I like them. I guess I figure, if I have the name Elisabeth I might as well not make it any uglier by shortening it (no offense to other Elis(z)abeth's out there! I really do like the name....just not for myself). Libby is the name I sort of like as a nickname. So some questions....
Question 1: Is the name Elisabeth Kaye a good name?
Question 2: What are some original nicknames for Elisabeth, other than the ones on this site?
I'd really appreciate the answers to these questions. Thanks in advance. =)

Absolutely love Elisabeth, its my daughters name. Not too keen on Kaye though its just nms.
We call our Elisabeth Bessie/Bess which is the best nickname in my opinion.

Elisabeth June is a pretty name. =)I can't be referred to as Bessie because my Great Aunt Frances's mother-in-law is/was called that. Madeleine Ruth is another good name. I've particularly taken an interest in the name Madeline because of Edgar Allen Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher". Granted, of course, the character in that short story is crazy and was buried alive. Regardless of that, I love the name.I also think it's kind of cool that both names have a total of 13 letters (in addition to last name...).Thank you for your comments.

1. Is the name Elisabeth Kaye a good name?
I love the name Elisabeth (especially with this spelling). In fact, it's one of my top three favorites for a girl and has been for quite some time. I think it's such a classy name, and the "s" spelling is refreshing, while also adding a touch more of a softer feel to it.Kaye isn't my style, and seems rather dated and filler imo. The combination works well, though. I, personally, prefer something a little less common as a middle name to Elisabeth. My favorites are Elisabeth Maria (which may seem rather common, but is a family name) and Elisabeth Raina.2. What are some original nicknames for Elisabeth, other than the ones on this site?
I'm not too great at coming up with nicknames, particularly original ones. My favorites for Elisabeth are rather common: Ellie & Ella. Elise, Elsie, Beth, Lily, & Lily-Beth are cute too, imo. Some others that come to mind are: Lilibet, Eliza, Elisa, Libby, & Lizzie (the last four I don't at all care for).

I like Elisabeth Maria. Kind of cool. Kaye holds no special meaning. My mother sort of thought it would be fair to give me a short middle name because of the long first name. Although, now she's realized that Kaye is a short version for Katherine, which is the name of my aunt. Thank you for your comments and answers. =)

I prefer the spelling Elisabeth. Elisabeth Kaye is ok though I prefer Elspeth Katherine.

Well, I can't really do anything about spelling, can I? I have an aunt named Katherine so I doubt my mother would have named me that. I do like that name though, slightly in response to An Abundance of Katherines by John Green, who is very brilliant in my opinion.Thank you for your comments. =)

I like Elisabeth Kaye! It's classic and will age well. My little sister's name is Elizabeth, but we call her Lizzie. Now, nicknames...
Ellie
Elle
Eli
Sally (stretching it a little)
Betta
Lily (stretching it a little)
Elsie
Elsa
Sabe (SAH-bay, like, with an accent over the 'e')
Bethie
Lissa
Lissy
LisaDo you like any?

Thank you. Sally's new. But this is the funny thing. When I was around the age of five, I had a doll that I named Sally. Strangely, when people don't know my name they always seem to guess Sarah. And Sally is a pet form for Sarah. Kind of ironic, don't you think?I like Elle, but Libby just a bit better.

I much prefer Elisabeth to Elizabeth. Spelling it with an S isn't really all that creative, as it is also an accepted variant form and according to this site, biblical. As for nicknames, I like Libby. I also like Eli (EE-lie). My favorite nickname would be Ellie though.

Thank you for your answers. I like Ellie too.

I don't personally care for Elizabeth spelled with an S, but it's a fine name spelled with a Z or S and Kaye is nice. Elisabeth isnt that uncommon where I live its a well accepted alternative spelling and the one I prefer. the same with Kaye.Elisabeth Kaye is a lovely combo strong yet feminine, its a name with a great many accepted nn which is a bonus for people who like nnMost of the nn I know are listed on this site, Libby is okay but isnt my favorite nn for Elisabeth that would be Beth or Lili

Thanks for your answers. My friend is named Beth so that's a no-go. Lili's good though.

Question 1: Is the name Elisabeth Kaye a good name?
I prefer Elizabeth, but I still think Elisabeth is pretty. Kaye is a big no-no for me, KAY is a masculine name (it's my Papa's name) so seeing it on a girl is weird for me.
Question 2: What are some original nicknames for Elisabeth, other than the ones on this site?
The only nn that I like is Libby, in fact if I have a daughter I might name her Elizabeth and call her Libby. Other than that I can't think of any good nn's.

Thanks for your answers. And it's cool about possibly naming your daughter Elizabeth to call her Libby. I really like Libby too.

Original? Elisabeth is just another form. As a French girl, it is what I am used to.

Well as an American, it's not that common. At least, not where I'm from.Thank you for your comment.

Question 1: Is the name Elisabeth Kaye a good name?
It's a fine name, though I prefer the Elizabeth spelling. Both are correct, though. I prefer the spelling Kaye to Kay.Question 2: What are some original nicknames for Elisabeth, other than the ones on this site?
Not going to check if they're listed on this site because there's probably fifty listed but I'll skip the more common ones: Elle, Ellie, Nell, Eli, Bess, Abby, Izzy, Isa, Isabel (you could justify that as a nickname, as it's a different form), Bebe, Ebba, Abe, Lily, Lilibeth, Lisbeth (leez-bet), Lee, Lys, Sabs, Babs, Babette, Isabie.

Yeah, I like Kaye better too. Ha. That's true; there's a million different ones on the list. New:Elle
Nell
Isabel
Bebe (although that's a bit too close to 'Baby' for me)
Ebba
Abe (I'd be reminded of Abraham Lincoln...)
Lily (Harry's mother ...and I guess daughter)
Lys
Babs
Isabie (I sort of like this one. It's really different sounding. =D )
I like Elle the best of all. It's simple and (I forget the exact word but) able to be read backwards the same as forewards. Isabie is really original, but I imagine my friends struggling to say it. =DThank you for your answers.

The word you're looking for is "Palindrome".Elle is a palindrome :]

Thank you! I knew it started with a P. I remember that much from The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. Adah (referred to herself as Ada) was the one obsessed with palindromes. She became an atheist at the age of 6 because her Sunday school teacher made her kneel in rice for an hour because she questioned location having anything to do with being saved. (Her father was a minister so being an atheist....not good.) Adah switched around "Oh God, God's Love" to "Evol's Dog, Dog ho." Even though half her brain was shrunken, Adah was my favorite character. She was the most interesting of all the Price women.

I think Elisabeth Kaye is a fine name. Right now I prefer the Elizabeth spelling, but that is constantly changing (though, I doubt it will change much anymore, since I'm reading Pride & Prejudice and am falling in love with the character of Elizabeth Bennett). Kaye is nms, but certainly not a bad name by any means. Some nns I can think of for Elisabeth are Lisa, Beta, Elle, Sabs, Ethie, Issy, and Bea (prn. bee).

Yes, I love Elizabeth Bennett too. =) My mom says I am so much like her, but I don't really think so. Haven't seen any of those nicknames yet. Thanks for the originality. Also, I really like the Virginia Woolf quote.

Question 1: Is the name Elisabeth Kaye a good name?
Yes and I can't see why it shouldn't be a good name. I do think that Elisabeth is a bit boring and sometimes pretentious but I see nothing wrong with it and I like Elisabeth Kaye as a combo.
Question 2: What are some original nicknames for Elisabeth, other than the ones on this site?
Not sure if their original but I've heard Lisa, Elisa, Isa, Elise

Thank you for your answers. I really appreciate it. =)Thank you again. I haven't seen Isa for a nickname, so thanks for the new.
