Tex and Scottie were not usually considered pejorative terms. Just descriptive nns like Red or Slim. Mick is more on a par with wop or kraut.

My friend's mum, who grew up in Ireland, would always complain about the fact that when she came to England, everyone thought it was perfectly okay to refer to her as Mick or Paddy, even to her face, although they'd never dream of using wop, kraut, or any other racially abusive terms.
