In general I object to naming children after countries or states, and for that reason I'd say no. However, if the girl was of Syrian decent, perhaps concieved or born there, then, I it acceptable I suppose.

As a sounding name, it does sound OK as the word Syria is a fairly 'smooth' one.

I don't like placenames as fn. Furthermore, I think of dictatorship and oppression when I hear the name Syria.

I only like placenames if you have some connection to the place. I think Syria is quite nice if you have some connection to Iran; if you're only using it for its sound, then I don't really like it.

I would have never thought of Syria as a person's name but to each their own if you have a reason for it.
