Gretchen

I think it's pretty too. I pronounce it just like it's spelled, the English language way... the German way would be awkward for me. I went to high school with a Gretchen, and her name was unusual for the demographic we're in. And, she was (and probably still is) drop dead gorgeous.
Middle names, I dunno... I pick middle names for reasons other than flow. Gretchen Miranda?

I think it would be more like GRET-hyen or GRET-shen (hard to write in English but those are approximations) rather than GRET-khen.
I think it's alright. In any case it should really only be used as a nickname because it's really cutesy!

I really don't like it.
I like it. Just because it isn't super trendy, that doesn't mean its a bad name.
I remember meeting a lady with this name and I was completely taken aback when she told me what her name was. It didn't seem at all like something she might have been called. I used to find it harsh, but if you say Gretch-in all I hear is retch. Grech-in is much nicer. That said I find it very cute, and something you could grow with but I don't think its usable...she would be teased and have people like me do a double take.
I think it is one of the ugliest names in the world. There is not one phonetic aspect of it that appeals to me.
Retchin' Gretchen.
Bletch.

Totally agree
I couldn't have said it better.

Yes I know what you mean, I was afraid everyone would think it's too harsh. Greta is very nice, another name I'm starting to like. Thanks!

I pn it Grech-en, and I like it. Some think it sounds harsh, but I have to disagree.
I love this name. I'd seriously consider it for a child, but sadly, it was the name of my first dog. :) I stick with the english pronunciation.

Gretchen Leah
Gretchen Isobel

prefer Grech-en, though its not a name i'd use.
I like it. And I pronounce it Grech-en.
I dislike this name very much, but probably because I know this girl named that and she is too-smart too-ambitious and talks all the time about how she wants to be valedictorian but doesn't think she will be (yeah right). Also, girls names that start with G I just don't really like in general. just my opinion. And I'm English so I pronounce it grech en.
