Mortal Kombat the video game comes to mind. She was a butt-kicking gal named Sonya (Soen-yah!). I used to always chose her to play with... or the woman with the whippy hair that you could pick someone up with and throw them across the level... yeah...

I think of my friend Sonja, she in her late 20s, tall, blond hair, blue eyes, great smile. Also, think of it as a nn for Sofia. Prefer the spelling Sonja (also Sanja, as in my case).

I prefer Sonia. I know a 60 year old Sonia and so that is who I think of.

I think a Sonya would be of average height, with pale skin, freckles, and red hair. Naturally red hair, not dyed. She would wear glasses. She would occasionally use bad grammar, but she's not stupid. She would have a slow, deliberate way of speaking. She would have a good figure and dress well. She would have a very flat-footed way of walking. She would have a good sense of humor, always ready to laugh. A very nice person. Married to a rather physically unattractive man with a gambling problem. Everyone would say she could do better. I think this because this describes my ex-boss, whose name is Sonya.

I like Sonya. I had an aunt called Sonja and I think of her when I hear it. She died when I was young so I don't really remember how she looked like but she was a very kind old lady.
If I would imagine Sonya on a little girl I'm thinking of a girl with brown hair, calm and quiet.

One of my best friends is named Sonia (spelt with the i instead of a y) so I automatically think of her. She's one of my best friends so naturally I think she's pretty cool, so the name gets that association too in my book.

I think it's a bit awkward looking and prefer the spelling Sonja. I like the name, but not enough that it makes my list. I picture a quiet girl, perhaps a musician- yes, a musician, and she plays the cello. She has dirty blond hair that's just on the long side (not impressively long), green eyes, and she dresses like your typical Pioneer Valley neo-hippie. (I'm picturing maybe a big sweater, with wood buttons, a skirt and tights, those ugly but comfortable, brightly coloured shoes- what do you call those? Oh, crocs- and maybe a turtleneck. The skirt and tights could be replaced with loose pants, perhaps with a bright design like stripes or maybe paint-stained jeans.)
