Benedict
I've gotten so that I really love the name Benedict so I was wondering, WDYTO it? I love the nn Ben and I think that Benedict sounds very stong, it just appeals to me more than Benjamin. So a few questions.1 Do you think Benedict would automatically be associated with the Pope? DO you think it would be associated with Benedict Arnold?2 Do you like the nn Ben or is some other nn better?3 What are some good combos?

One of my favorite names is Bennett, which is the medieval form of Benedict. I also like Ben as a nickname for Bennett.

1. Pope: yes, but that's not a bad thing imo, it's just a thing. I have no idea who the other guy is.2. Ben is the logical nickname and it's the one most Benedicts will get whether they like it or not.3. Benedict Daniel, Benedict Rowan, Benedict Carl, Benedict Matthew, Benedict Alexander, Benedict Ambrose, Benedict Christopher.

Benedict Rowan and Benedict Matthew are very cool. Benedict Ambrose could grow on me. Thanks.

I don't like Benedict at all. I much prefer Bennett as an alternative 'Ben' name.1 - yep I automatically associate it with the Pope, but not Benedict Arnold.
2 - Ben is a great nn. Short, strong, handsome.
3 - Benedict Malcolm, Benedict Lawrence, Benedict Samuel.

I hadn't thought of Benedict Lawrence, and I like it, drat, now my Theodore Laurence combo is going to have a fight with Benedict Lawrence. Thank you for the input.

Benedict Edmund
Benedict Asher
Benedict Miles
Benedict Simon
Benedict Tobias

1. I don't know, wow! I am so skewed on this. At first I only associated it with Benedict Arnold, and thought of it as some kind of a title. Then when the pope was poped, I thought "Ew, what a lame name when he could have chosen so many cool ones." Now I adore it, but I do associate it strongly with the pope, because the papal vibes are one of the main reasons I like it so much. So. I don't know.2. I think Ben is really really boring, which is why I like Benedict as a middle name. But it's fine as a nickname for Benedict3. Um. Hm. Benedict Joseph. Benedict William. Benedict Henry. Benedict Walter.

I think Benedict Walter is interesting, but it might be a little too heavy. Thanks.

The very first thing that I think of is Benedict Arnold. I like the name in theory, but that association turns me off to it. I would be afraid that he would be teased relentlessly when they study the Revolutionary War in school. If you go with a nn, I think that Ben is the best of the bunch.

Yeah, actually I hadn't even thought of Benedict Arnold as a problem, but we just covered the Revolution in school, so its really fresh in my mind. I just can't decide whether I find the association with Benedict Arnold overpowering.

I really like Benedict! I think it's a lovely name and I don't think the Pope association is a big problem.
I'm not to fond of Ben as a nickname mainly because I don't think a lovely name like Benedict should be shortened. Ben is kind of plain and boring, Benedict is not.

THanks fo rthe input, I'm finding Ben just isn't too popular.

Love it!I absolutely love Benedict! It's been on my favourites list for years. There's something regal and off-setting about it.1. Do you think Benedict would automatically be associated with the Pope? DO you think it would be associated with Benedict Arnold? Now that there's a pope named Benedict, a minority of people might assume that's where you got the idea from (especially if you're Catholic). But I think the overwhelming majority would associate it with Benedict Arnold. 2. Do you like the nn Ben or is some other nn better?I'm not too keen on Ben as a nickname because it's the most common nickname for Benjamin. Since Benedict is awesome due to the fact that it's uncommon and unpopular, I believe that giving it the nickname Ben is destroying the charm that comes with its usage. 3 What are some good combos?Benedict Daviess
Benedict Patrick
Benedict Paul
Benedict Robert
Benedict David
Benedict Ian
Benedict Samuel
Benedict Grant
Benedict Walter
Benedict Augustus
Benedict Louis
Benedict Crispin
Benedict Christian
Benedict Victor
Benedict Xavier

Thank you, for the input, I am Catholic which is part of the reason I asked about the Pope association, and it kind of turns me away from the name because that it is the name of the Pope totally doesn't play into why I like the name. I also understand where you are coming from about Ben, but I just think Benedict is too heavy for a small child.Of the combos you mentioned I would considerBenedict Samuel
Benedict Grant
Benedict Christian
Benedict Xavier (I love this)

Very good! I also love Benedict Victor (why didn't I think of that? *slaps self on forehead*) and Benedict Grant. Well done!

Benedict has gone back and forth with Jedidiah for my #1 / #2 favorite name for quite a while now, long before Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger ascended to the papacy. Benedict Arnold has never entered into it for me. However, we do have to admit a high degree of probability that it will be fairly strongly linked to the one, and to a lesser degree the other. That doesn't bother me in the least (I'm Catholic, after all). You have to decide if it bothers you.I first came to Benedict because I love the nn Ben but do not love Benjamin (I have the same issue loving Nick and disliking Nicholas - and haven't found a similar way around that one yet). But Benedict has continued to grow on me in its own right. These days I still love the nn Ben, but have also come to love the nn Bick (which was Rock Hudson's character's nn in the movie Giant - his real name was Jordan Benedict Jr).Dick would also work, but I'm not goin there. Even if it didn't already bite for other reasons, Darth Cheney has utterly ruined any tiny charm that nn may ever have had.Technically you could probably torture Ned out of it (beNEDict), but why?I have a ton of Benedict combos, both as fn and mn. I think it matches up equally well with monosyllabic or polysyllabic names, though polysyllabics sound better as fn's, imo. A sampling (my extreme faves have *):Benedict Alexander / Alexander Benedict

have you consideredNick for Benedict? When I was posting and trying to think of other nicknames for Benedict, Nick quickly came to mind.

That's not a bad idea! No, obviously I hadn't thought of it. *slaps self on forehead*Thanks for pointing it out!

I'm Catholic too, and part of the reason why I would hesitate to use Benedict is that I don't want people to think that he was named after the Pope, especially since one of my favorite combos is John Paul which honors my father and grandfather.I like a lot of your suggestions. Namely the following list.Benedict Ford
James Benedict
Quinn Benedict
Benedict Sawyer / Sawyer Benedict
Benedict Scott
Benedict Shane / Shane Benedict
Wade Benedict
Benedict YorkElias Benedict
Ian Benedict
Kurt Benedict (unfortunately Kurt is my brother's name, and though I love him, I don't want to honor him)
Luke Benedict (same only Luke is my cousin's name)

UnderstandJohn Paul is my father's name. If I'd named a son directly for him it would have looked like I was naming him for JP II.

1 Do you think Benedict would automatically be associated with the Pope? DO you think it would be associated with Benedict Arnold? No. I'm more likely to think "...and Beatrice" than either of those.2 Do you like the nn Ben or is some other nn better? I don't really like Ben, but don't mind Benny. I can't think of a better nn though. The only other one I can think of is Dick. Or maybe Ned.3 What are some good combos?
Benedict Louis
Benedict Charles
Benedict Peter
Benedict William
Benedict Ernest
Benedict John
Benedict Francis
