I think it makes a good nn, but not as a full name by itself.

Funny you should bring this up. My daughter is expecting a boy in January. She came up with the name Leo. She felt that the name Leo reflected two important things about her personality: her love for cats and her interest in and belief in astrology. But her husband thought that Leo on its own was a little too insubstantial and that it should be a nickname for something. My daughter then suggested Leopold, but he didn't care for that and countered with Leonidas. Leonidas was a king of the Spartans who delayed the invasion of two million Persian soldiers long enough for the Athenians to mount a naval assault and repel the Persians, thus preserving democracy as a form of government. So it has been decided that his name will be Leonidas and he will be called Leo. At first I thought Leonidas a very strange name but it has grown on me. It's definitely one to consider if you like Leo but feel it should stand for something. Leo is strong, masculine and not too trendy. A pretty cool name.

I like the sound, but when I think about, I, too, go back and forth on it. It's snappy sounding yet not too out there. But then, it is an astrological sign for a lion. Not really my thing, so I'm like eh. Probably not helpful. The one thing I don't really find it, though, is boring.I prefer it with longerish MNs.

I love Leo as a full name and don't care for any of the longer forms for it.

I like it, as a nn that is. I find it a little short, I tend to think any name less than 5 letters is too short. However, I do not like any full names for Leo, therefore am not completely against it.

It's definately not boring but I do feel that, as a full name, it lacks substance. Leonardo and Leopold are my favorite longer names that use Leo as a nn but there are tons of others! Some others I can think of off hand are Leonard, Leon, Leonas, Leontius, Levon, and Lionel.
