In Catalan, Helena is pronunced uh-LEH-nuh, and Lena, LEH-nuh. I really like both names, but not much with the pronunciations everyone is giving, I much prefer the Catalan ones...they're much more sweeter, imo.

I think Helena can be pronounced one of 3 ways: Helen-ah, heh-LEE-nah and heh-LAY-nah. I prefer the last one, but I also like the first one. So if I were to name my dd Helena (and prn. it heh-LAY-nah), I might occasionally call her Lena, prn. LAY-nah. But if I just saw the name Lena, I'd automatically assume it was LEE-nah. Confusing? :b

In Germany Lena is pronounced 'Lay-na' however I would pronounce Helena 'Heh-len-ah'

Hel-en-nuh and Lay-nuh

In Danish we pronounce Helena as he-LEE-nah.

I pronounce Helena like HEL-e-nuh and the same way I pronounce Lena like L-e-nuh. You see in Germany both are pronounced the same.

I pronounce Helena HEL-en-ah, and Lena LAY-na. I'm not sure why the difference in pronunciations, that's just how I've always said them.

For Helena it's more a matter of how I feel like pronouncing it at that moment :P but in order of frequency:
1. he-LEN-a
2. he-LEE-na
3. he-LAY-na
4. helen-a

To me I pronounce them instictively as:
Helena = HEL-en-ah, like Helen with an 'a' at the end or Elena with a 'h' at the start.
Lena = LEE-na

I only pronounce Helena he-LEE-na because that's the pronunciation used for the Helena River in Perth, Western Australia.

Lena I would pronounce LEE-na, but I could see it being LAY-na as well. It would depend on what it was short for (Helena = LEE-na, Milena = LAY-na).
