Nate, but they're both awful as a full name.

They aren't for full names. Just a name for a character that will be a small character in my book, so no full name is needed. But thanks for the input.

Definately Nate...though I prefer Nathan as a nn for Nathaniel.

Tough choice, but Nate at the moment.

Nick, which I think...(m)...Makes a fine name on its own. Puts me in mind of Hemingway and his Nick stories, and Nick Carraway of The Great Gatsby--it feels a bit throwback to me in the nicest way.Something about anything with the nn Nick immediately puts me off, perhaps since I knew plenty of Nicholas "Nick"s, and they were, without exception, total jerks. But Nick on its own has real possibilities. It's, to borrow a phrase, more debonnaire and fun--Nick could be suave without being Rico Suave.Array

I guess it depends on who you knowEvery Nick I know, whether it was just Nick or Nicholas nn Nick, have all been quite gentleman-like males: very polite and respectable, sweet and all around good guys (not to mention cute).

NIck, but neither of them stands on their own

Quadritto.I love Nick as a nickname (ha, ha, punny). I really hate Nate as anything.

I only like Nate as a nn for Nathan, and Nick as a nn for Nicholas.I prefer Nicholas to Nathan, so I'd say Nick :)

Nick.I dislike Nick for personal reasons, but I HATE the name Nate. Nathan is cool, Nikolai "Nik" is cool; Nick and Nate are boring and over-used.

DittoI really love Nicholas and Nikolai, and nn Nick is okay. But I have always loathe Nate. I love Nathan though, no nn. On their own, they are really boring, overused and I don't like either.
