Miranda
in reply to a message by Amy
I like Miranda. I find it aesthetically appealing and a name that's suited to both a child or an adult. It has a number of nickname possibilities, if that's someone's style, and it's not wildly popular but still not unusual, either. Eliza is too something for me. Too yuppie, maybe. It strikes me as a name parents would choose to go a sibling Sebastian, and the idea of both together kind of makes my skin crawl. Its popularity on the boards reminds me of things like Wilhelmina and Maude--I wonder if people here like it because they're caught up in a board trend that leans toward it, or if it would have appeal to them otherwise. I've always thought it was quite ugly; the long "i" sound puts me off, among other things.

Wilhelmina and Maude both appealed to me long before I came here--just to settle the question in my case. ;)I prefer Miranda to Eliza, too, though I don't like either. I have really bad associations with both, but in the end, the associations with Eliza are worse, so Miranda it is.Array

Your naming style is so your own that I wouldn't bother suspecting the origin of any of your likes. :-) Can't exactly picture you buying into a trend for the trend's sake!

Second this.Miranda seems beautiful, simple, timeless and classic, while Eliza is just...blah. The sound is off, etc.
