Anastasia
I am really in love with the name Anastasia! I don't know why, but recently I have just been in love with it! I love Russian names and think this one is very beautiful. I would love to have a little girl with this name and call her Anya. Just a few questions:1. What do you think of the name Anastasia?2. Should I change the spelling to Anastasya or Anastasiya to better fit the nickname Anya? 3. Any middle name ideas?? I have been trying to come up with one, but I can't seem to find anything cute enough!Thank you!

I love Anastasia and have not ruled out using it as a middle name when I have kids someday. I don't think you should have to change the spelling to Anastasiya to fit Anya. Anastasia is used as a variant transliteration from Russian, so it really doesn't matter which spelling you use. I'm not sure what sort of middle names you are looking for. I could make some suggestions based on your taste.

ThanksI am probably looking for a middle name that is old fashioned, girly, not very long since Anastasia is so long, but something that just sounds pretty. :)

1. I love it said ah-nah-STAH-see-ah or ah-nah-stah-SEE-yah. ann-ah-STAY-zha ruins the beauty. I adore Anya as a nickname, too.
2. No, definitely not.
3. Anastasia Pearl, Anastasia Eve, Anastasia Miriam, Anastasia Grace, Anastasia Jane, Anastasia Rose, Anastasia Noelle.

I used to love anna-STAY-zha and hate ah-na-STAS-ee-a, but now I can't stand the first and adore the second. I don't mind Anastasiya, I actually kind of like Russian names with y's. Dmitriy, Alexey, Anatoliy, Afanasiy, Vitaliy, etc.Anya is cute for it, I also like Stacia (STAH-see-ah).I have no combos either. I would probably use Anastasia Tippins or something else family if I were in a real pinch.

I know a girl named Stacia Brooke ... so I'll suggest Anastasia Brooke. I think the nn Anya would be alright, though as was already mentioned that's normally a nn for Anna in Russia. I also prefer the nn Stacia, but that's just me. Anya is still beautiful :)

I really dislike it if it's pronounced anna-STAY-shaIt's just faux-Russian to me. And changing the spelling of the name - especially if you're going to pronounce it anna-STAY-sha - to Anastasiya is just wrong. The spelling screams out for the proper pronunciation of ana-STAS-ee-a. I also really don't like "cute" middle names, since a name serves a purpose in life. I think something elegant is a better match. My favorite combo is Liv Anastasia - what about Anastasia Liv? Anya is a cute enough nn for Anastasia, though.

Isn't the Russian pronunciation ah-nah-stah-SEE-yah?

Which is what I tried to write.I suck at writing pronunciations, and I'm worse at hearing where a word is stressed...in fact, I can never do that.

I like Anastasia a lot. It makes me think of a Russian princess. I think you should spell it Anastasia.Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Anya is NOT used as a nn for Anastasia in Russia. Anya is short for Anna, not Anastasia. All the Russian girls I've met or read about named Anastasia were called Nastya.

That's ok. Because I am not from Russia, I don't mind if Anya is not a common nickname for Anastasia.

How are you pronouncing it: a-na-STAY-zha or a-na-STAS-ee-a? (helps for think of a mn :)I would stick with the i and no y.

It depends on the spelling:Anastasia "anna-stay-ja"Anastasiya "anna-stay-zee-a"Most likely I would spell it with an "i" :)

1. Anastasia is pretentious, like a Disney princess or something.
2. No, no, NO! Do not add a 'y' where an 'i' or 'e' is supposed to be. Tryndy.
3. Anastasia "Anya" Xanthe/Carys/Marie
