Just got round to reading the list in full. It's fascinating. You could be here all day going through the unusual spellings! A few more jumped out at me:

Porphyria - thought this was a disease? I'm sure it's what King George died from (as in the film The Madness of King George).

Jock - thought this was just a nickname for Scots?
Mac - another typical nickname for a Scotsman. hope his surname doesn't start with Mac
