Storm / Stone
I was watching What Not To Wear earlier and this ladies sons name was Storm. Do you think its kind of hippie or do you think its something a kid now could pull off? Then Storm made me think of Stone (like Stone Phillips of Dateline) which I have always kind of liked. Do you think this is a name that a kid could pull off now, or do you think they would feel like a knock off of an anchorman?-Tate

My daughter Mackenzie's mn is Storm. I love love love it as a first name for a boy. There is a little boy in my town named Stone (same age as Gunner) and he has a little sister named Scout. So, yes, I think kids can totally pull these names off.xoxo

I think Stone is a horrible name, but Storm is okay as a mn. Never as a fn.

I know two girls named StormyI do think it's a little hippie, but I think given the right personality (and the right middle name!), that the kid could pull it off. One of the Stormys I know is very outgoing and vibrant and could pull off any name. The other one is kind of pale and quiet, and the name really doesn't work on her. She'd make a good Kate.Stone... I really don't like it that much, but again, given the right personality and "normal" middle name (as a backup), it would definitely not be out of the realm of possibility.

Haha, I know a man and his name is Rock. I've always liked it on him. But anyway, I think Storm is a little too hippie. Maybe thats just me....-Scarlet Pimpernel

Stone is more do able than Storm. Storm seems more hippie to me than Stone does, plus I like Stone. I, personally, would only use it as a mn.

They both seem like names that really white and moderately well-off yuppies think are really cool and naturey. Faux-hippie, contrived new-age if you will. Bleah.Neither are unpleasant phonetically, though, and for words they're very name-y.

I LOVE the name Storm. I recently met a little girl named Storm, and I can't decide if I like it better on a boy or a girl... ahh! But I definitely think it's pull-offable. (Don'tcha love my English? haha.)Stone, I could take or leave. I'm not really sure why, since I love lots and lots of word names... this is just one I'm not really partial to one way or another.

I like the name Storm, but not Stone.

I like Storm as a middlename. But I would never use it as a first name.
Stone is cool, but for an adult. An adult would wear this name well. However, a child with this name would seriously be beaten up. Sad, but true. (I direct children's theatre. I know kids.)

hippie, but in a good way [m]I LOVE Storm, and would use on both genders. Stone I don't like.

I knew a little boy once named Storm and he was so named because he was born in the middle of a snow storm. The name fit his energetic personality very well, he really would blow into a room sometimes! :) I think it's great on a little boy but I don't like Storm or Stormy on a little girl. My favorite storm combo is Zachary Storm. I adore Stone and hope to use it as a MN for a son one day. For me Stone is a family surname and was actually my grandmother's MN so I want to use it to honor her but think it's better on a boy. I'm not sure of it as a FN it's a bit hard and I think there might be cause for a lot of harsh jokes whereas as a MN it just works better. My favorite Stone combos are Aidan Stone (meaning "fiery stone") and Colin Stone (my dad's FN, his mom's MN).

Storm and Stone and other word names are in right now, so I think it'd be fine as long as they're not too far out there. Though Storm tends to be used more on girls, I prefer it for a boy.Stone has a long history of use. It was originally a ln, and I don't consider it hippie at all.

I think they're both very tryndee in feel: almost-random common nouns co-opted for names. I don't like either one. Storm just doesn't sound like a nice thing to be named after. Stone is a very unpleasant verb, and of course stoned isn't nice either. There is a TV weatherman somewhere, he's the son of a famous sportscaster I think. The weatherman's name is Storm Field. And it's his real name.

I really like Storm. I'm using it on a character (has a twin sister named Skye. Yes, it's themey, but eh, their mother is 17). Stone's just okay. I wouldn't use it.
