Re: a few questions
Warning: I'm probably going to be no help whatsoever, but these were interesting questions - I had to answer them. ;o)1. Francis called Frank / Frankie - What's your impression and stereotype? Depends on whether Francis will be used on a girl or boy. Francis-nn-Frankie-on-a-girl is deliciously old-fashioned, but also uncommon enough to be refreshing. I'm thinking along the lines of Frankie & Johnny, I guess. :o) (I know this is completely unneccessary info, since you're having a boy, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway). Francis-nn-Frankie-on-a-boy is stereotypically "Mafia" to me. Not necessarily old-time mobster feeling, but definitely an Italian-American tough guy vibe. Francis-nn-Frank, though, doesn't have the same association. I guess that makes me think middle-class, middle-aged white male. What a difference a suffix makes, eh? 2. Pick ONE of: Drew or Merrick. I personally like Drew better than Merrick BUT I've come across enough young Drews lately that if I were having a boy, I'd definitely be looking at Merrick.3. Robin for a boy: do you think it is very masculine, or does it sound kind of "soft" or weak to you? Eh, neither? Robin is planted right in the middle of unisex territory for me - I make no assumptions until I see who's carrying the name. Now, when I do see Robin on a boy, I don't think "bird" or "girly;" neither do I think "strong & masculine." I guess the only thing that goes through my mind is the mild query as to whether Robin is his given name or a nn for Robert.4. Which is nerdier: Keith, or Marshall? Nerdier?! As in "Revenge of the Nerds" nerdy or Dr. Spencer Reid from "Criminal Minds" nerdy? (http://www.impawards.com/1984/revenge_of_the_nerds.html and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Criminal_Minds_.jpg 3rd from left for those of you not familiar w/my references) That's really a tough call - I can see both on sexy intelligent men as well as dyed in the wool, pocket protector wearing, surgical taped glasses guys.5. How do YOU pronounce Leif? Just like the word leaf. Why? How do you prn it? :oD6. Which of these names I've mentioned do you like most? Least? Merrick, Keith & Marshall are the top 3. The rest are names I'd not mind seeing on someone else's son, but not ones I'd choose for my own child.
