The two 'n' endings in GretcheN LaureN clash horrificly to me, and Lauren is SO tryndee and very ugly to me. I also think that the harsher sound of Gretchen needs the softer sound of Laurel to balance it.

Laurel, definitely. Gretchen is very harsh sounding, and Laurel softens it. Besides, Laurel is much more original than Lauren.

But even as a fn I prefer Laurel. I think it is prettier and more interesting than Lauren.

Gretchen Laurel sounds much better.Gretchen and Lauren both end in 'N' so they don't suit each other.

Gretchen Laurel is nicer as a combination - the 'en' sound makes Gretchen Lauren a bit too sing-songy for me. I love both of those names though.
