Actually I've never saw it as hippyish. Trendy, well yes a little. But just in the way that it follows the used-to-be rather obscure biblical boys names trend that names like Noah, Jonah, Jonas, Isaiah, etc... have came out of and became popular in the last few years.
On rather on not it's too biblical, I guess that depends on the person using it. For someone who isn't religious at all, maybe it is, then again maybe not. Personally I don't think it is. There is after all Elijah Wood who has brought the name into the mainstream, making it a strong association that could backburn the biblical association.
