Maggie
What do you think of the name Maggie? Do you think it sounds strong enough to stand on its own or do you prefer it as a nickname for Margaret or Marguerite, etc? Also, do you have any middle name suggestions?

I have a friend named Margaret who goes by Maggie. It totally suits her but I'm not sure if it can everyone.

I think it is better as a nickname for Margaret, Marguerite, or Magdalen. It sounds very warm, casual and familiar, so if it were my name I'd prefer to have a more formal name for formal situations. I do like it a lot though.- chazda

Maybe I'm weird, but......although I'm not particularly fond of Maggie in itself, I love it as a nickname for Mary Agatha.I don't like any of the names involved (Maggie, Mary, or Agatha) but I think they're lovely when used together.

I'd prefer it as a nickname for Margaret or any variants{as long as they're nice!}.It seems like a nickname to me.

Maggie is babyish to me. Margaret is nice, Marguerite is cowish for me (I'm French and Marguerite is the typical cow name).

I've always really disliked Maggie. The "ag" sound is so unattractive to my ears. I think the same with Agnes._____________________________________________________________________"I marmaladed a slice of toast with something of a flourish, and I don't suppose I have ever come much closer to saying 'Tra-la-la as I did the lathering, for I was feeling in mid-season form this morning."El

I love the name Maggie and I think it definitely works on it's own. Most people on here like to use full names with nn's, but I'm not so fussy. I like the combos Maggie Rose, Maggie Louise, Maggie Jane, Maggie Renae, Maggie Lola, Maggie Samantha, Maggie Elizabeth, Maggie Nicole and Maggie Tess / Tessa. My fave is Maggie Rose though, very sweet sounding.

I love the name Maggie, but I hate most of the formal names for it. I guess I'd go with Magdalena or Magnolia. I did find a baby named Maggie May, after the Rod Stewart song. I thought it was cute.Leslie, lucky mommy to Scott (2000), Delaney (2002), and Larissa (2005)

I love Maggie, but I prefer it as a nn for Margaret. I actually don't love the name Margaret, but I love Maggie. :b But I don't think Maggie can stand on its own; it sounds immature for an adult as a "formal" name.

Can't stand it.I just picture a very whiny, rich brat. (For a cat, its fine.) I prefer Meg, and as a nickname for Margaret. I still like Joanna Marguerite or Catherine Lucille. Much more adult and able to stand up to the test of time.

Its a good name, but it reminds me of The Simpsons. I think Maggie on its own is better than Margaret etc. I like Maggie Elizabeth

Maggie Elaine
Maggie Elizabeth
Maggie Jane
Maggie Jeanne
Maggie June
Maggie Josephine
Maggie Louise
Maggie Lynn
Maggie Rose
Maggie RoxanneI think J, L, and R names sound the best.

I like the name Maggie but am not too fond of it on its own. I definitely prefer it as a NN for Margaret. Maggie almost sounds too cutesy/little-girlish for an adult; at least she'd have the choice of going my Margaret or Maggie when she was older. BTW, Margaret is a huge GP of mine, although I prefer it as a MN.

If I have two daughters, the second will be called Magdalen with the possible nn Maggie. I like Margaret and lots of other names that can be shortened to Maggie.
Combos that come to mind:Margaret Alice
Margaret Louise

I don't think Maggie stands alone very well. I love Margaret and Marguerite, and you could also use Maggie as a nickname for Magdalen.

Maggie should definetly be a nickname to Margaret. i hate when people name their kids with nicknames like naming your daughter Lucy instead of Lucille.

Lucy is NOT a nickname, it is a name in its own right. Plus, try clicking on Lucille, and you'll see that it's a pet name for Lucia.
