Emily
Why does everybody hate the name Emily for stupid reasons? Just because there is someone you hate with that name doesn't mean you should hate their name. {Although I don't like the spelling of the name Shawna because I don't like a person with the name spelled that way PLUS I think Shauna is a better spelling.} Sure, most Emilys are stuck-up, {which makes me believe I'm the only tomboy named Emily in existence} because I even hate one because she's stuck-up AND shares my name. ^^;Yeah. Come up with better excuses as to why you hate the name.

Um, Emily is tired and overusedI've probably met/seen hundreds in my life. But just for your information, not everyone "hates" the name or dislikes it just because they know someone they don't like named Emily. There are so many damn girls named Emily, there are likely to be a ton that aren't very nice, and a ton that are perfectly lovely. And in the future, try not to be so overly sensitive or defensive.

I like the name Emily. It is my cousin's name and come to think of it, I haven't met one that I didn't like. I think the fact that it is such a common name makes it prone to have more bad personal associations with it. I have bad associations of people with my own name because it is so common.

I've always thought it was just to popular. ANd when I don't like a name because someone I met named it was mean or something, I admit that its an irrational prejudice, but that doesn't mean I have to like the name, it just means I have to avoid being prejudiced against people with that name, so in any case if I had a problem with the name Emily (which I don't) then that doesn't mean I would judge you by it being your name. I don't see anything wrong with that being the excuse as long as you don't allow it to effect your treatment of others.

Wait, you're complaining about other people's stupid reasons for hating the name, and yet you're the one making stupid generalizations like "most Emilys are stuck-up"? And you admit to using the exact same reasoning yourself with the name Shawna? What was the point of this post?

agreed.. (ed)and also, Emily is a pretty and classic name, it just so happens a lot of us (being name nerds) appreciate its popularity, and would not want our child to be Emily H all her life.
To stereotype a person by their name is a bit stupid IMO, and I agree with Cera that you're being very hypocritcal, I'm sure there are some very nice Shawna's out there. (edited for spelling)

I don't hate Emily. I wouldn't use it because of its popularity, but I still like it.However, I don't think most Emilys are stuck-up. I prefer to go on a case-by-case basis with people. Most of the Emilys I've known have been rather sweet girls and women, and I don't think it's fair to stereotype them as stuck-up because you've run into a few that were. (That's funny... Weren't you saying something to that effect?)Out of curiosity, is there one particular person on this board to whom this rant is directed, or just the board in general?

I don't hate Emily. My grandmother was Josephine Emily and i have a cousin called Emily.I think people "hate" names when they become so popular that you have three or four in every class - hence the little Emily's become known as Emily L, Emily P, Emily T and Emily R.
