Re: Malachy

I always thought it was pronounced MAL-uh-kai (as in guy). Am I wrong?

Malachy is an Irish name (or at least an Anglicized version of an Irish name). Some sources say that it is the Irish variant of Malachi, others say that it has a completely different root. But whatever the source, Malachy is definitely pronounced "MAL-uh-kee." I think it's gorgeous.

Yep. I saw it first in a TV show about St. Malachy and they prn it MAL-uh-kee as well. I like it too.

I pronounce it MAL-uh-kai as well. I also prefer the Malachi spelling.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Malachy and Malachi are two different names. And I like both, though prefer Malachi.

I did, too.I thought it was just another spelling of Malachi. This spelling makes me want to say ma-LATCH-ee.I prefer the Malachi spelling, but overall, I dislike the name. It's too fussy sounding for me. And Kai seems to be catching on as a "cool"/trendy NN, so I can see its use increasing.
