Carrie
I'm really liking Carrie for a girl right now. Is it ok on it's own or is it too nicknamey? The problem is, I can only think of it being a nickname for Caroline which I hate. Can you think of any other names it could be a nickname for?

I think it's too nicknamey by itself. I adore it as a nn for Caroline, but it could also be for Carina, Cara, Carissa, or Carys.

Sex and the CityThat's the first thing I think of when I hear this name.

I don't know if you're stuck on this spelling, but you could always derive Cari/Kari from Carina or Karina. WDYT of Carolina?

I love Carrie!I think it's perfectly fine all on its own, and in my opinion, has a much nicer sound than any of the longer forms. Carrie has been one of my top favorites for quite some time, and I find it to be a very sweet, feminine name that doesn't sound too nicknamey.

One of my best friends is called Carrie Julia. I think it is ok as a name on its own as long as its paired with a strong sounding mnS xx

Love it!I like it just on it's own, or as a nickname for Carolyn. I'm not fan of Caroline, either :-/ It could also work as a nn for Carol or Carreen.

Carol, Carolyn, Carolina, Carina, Carissa, Karen? Beyond those, it gets to be a bit ofa stretch.Actually, I much prefer it on its own, and I think I've only ever known one Carrie who used it as a nn (for Carolyn, I think.)

I think Carrie is substantial enough that it could stand on its own. Some other name suggestions that Carrie could be a nickname for:Cara
Carina
Carlotta
Carmela
Carmen
Carys

You may want to just name her Caroline, and call her Carrie when she's little. I can't really imagine a, say, 50-year-old woman with the name Carrie. Caroline is a name that works for all ages, and Carrie doesn't sound like it can be taken seriously after the age of 40.If you don't like the spelling of Caroline, you can always go with an alternate spelling, or choose a name that sounds similiar but you may still like, such as Caralyn/Karalyn.
