No! I don't think an Eleanor would get made fun of. Eleanor is a sophisticated, feminine name. If your husband has a problem with the name why not use Eleanor and he can use one of the many nn's that are available for Eleanor? I prefer the spelling Eleanor or Eleanore, but not Elinor. The spelling Elinor reminds me of Elsinore.
