Shani
WDYTO Shani (SHAH-nee) for a girl? I'm currently digging how snappy and bright it sounds. Just seems very friendly to me. :) Any thoughts on it (or mns, if you have an idea or two) would be most welcome.

Shani is gorgeous, and yay for that pronunciation, if it was SHAY-nee I was going to cry lol.
I slightly prefer Siani (same prn) as a nickname for Sian (SHAHN), which is one of my really-favourite-but-can't-use-it names. Shani is just fine though.
What about . . .
Shani Evening
Shani Amaryllis
Shani Clarisse
Shani Francesca
Shani Philomena
Shani Rosalind
Shani Honora
Shani Carole
Or of course there's always Shani Rae :-)

I know a 5 year old girl named Shani. She goes by her given name, Shanita, when she's in trouble :)
I really like it.

Oh, goodness! Let's see--I'm definitely seeing Shani Celeste, Shani Viola, Shani Damaris, Shani Lucasta, and Shani Daffodil. Shani Daffodil just seems so bright--it could only be moreso if she was Shani Sunflower or Shani Snowdrop, lol. And Shani Helen--that one's even (sort of) a family name! :D
I'm also digging Shani Elanor, though my predilection is to Shani Elenor or Shani Elenore.
Thank you for all these excellent suggestions.

Ooh! Shani Julia would be rather balanced, wouldn't it? And Shani Lisette! Shani Matilda is lovely, but I'm not sure about using Matilda--I've a cousin by the name, and while she's a dear, I don't have a particular desire to name a kid after her, lol. Shani Cecelia (the spelling I'm currently preferring, though I like both) really works wonderfully. And Shani Juniper!
I'm gonna have lots to think about. :D

Shani Ruxandra was the first thing I thought of, actually! Unfortunately, Ruxandra is currently my number-two for given names (Katharine in a close third), and I sort of balk at looking at it as a mn, since I like it so well as a fn. ^^;;
I really like some of these other ones, too. Shani Guinnevere, Shani Ophelia (I'm really feeling Shani Ofelia, wdyt?), Shani Wilhelmina, Shani Arietta, Shani Lilith...these are just ace.
I'm digging Lavnina and Lilach, but I'm going to have to give them some more thought--I've never seen either before. :)
Array (is going to be totally converted to the pretty-Hebrew-girl-names train because of you :D)

As far as I know, Lilach doesn't mean "you are mine" - when I was researching the origins of Lilah, both Lilach and Lilakh turned up as alternative Hebrew transcriptions of it. They all mean Lilac as far as I can tell.

Lilach is Hebrew for lilac, but it is also a word meaning 'you are mine'. Alternatively, in Hebrew, Lila(h) (it all depends on the pronunciation of that last 'H') is 'she is mine', but it can also be a word relating to the lilac.
:)
Ahh, ok. No worries :-)
I like Shani Ophelia (or Ofelia) :)
Agreed!
