WDYTO Avigail?
I've always liked the name Ava, but now that it's becoming so so popular (#5 in 2006), I don't think I'd want to use it. Instead I think Avigail is a nice alternative. The nn Avi is cute, but Ava could be a more mature nn used. I prefer Avigail to Abigail because Abigail will inevitably be called "Abbie" which I find too cutsie and don't like (don't ask me why I think Abbie is too cute and Avi is just right on the cute scale, I can't figure it out either). WDYTO Avigail?

I like it. Abigail is one of my favorite names, but Avigail is nice as well, and Ava and Avi especially are great nicknames. It would probably get confused frequently with Abigail, but you'd just have to explain it. It reminds me of how I like both Elisabeth and Elisheva.

I thik an Avigail would inevitably be called Abigail by mistake, and probably Abby as well. Seriously, it is so close to Abigail that most people are sure to assume it is Abigail, and that you or Avigail herself has a speech problem.

I like it better than Abigail but it really is not my style.

I'm not sure how others pronounce it, but I say Avigail and Abigail very differently. I say Avigail with an "A" like in Sam and I say Avigail like with an "O" sound like in Rob.
