I'm sure I am alone in this, but I MUCH prefer Gertrude to Gertie or Trudy. I don't like either of those names, even as nns. Gertruda doesn't do anything for me either.
I had a neighbor growing up named Gertrude, which is probably why I like it. It is very harsh and old fashioned sounding, even today as older names make their come back. I personally would never use it, but I would love to hear it on a toddler! (Then again my favourite names at the moment are Millicent and Winifred, so maybe I just like names 99% of the population find unusable.)
