Re: Kyra?

Kira. Kyra is pronounced KYE-ra, not KEER-a. Keira is a spelling that makes me think of K. Knightley - it seems "new" and trendy to me. Ciara is another spelling that I do like.

I think it's technically correct to pronounce it KEER-ah (like Kyra Sedgwick, I think?), but I know that in the US, it would be extremely unlikely that people would say it that way first. Kira looks cleaner to me, and the pronunciation is less ambiguous.

Even though the site says it is pronounced Kie-ra all the Kyra I have known have pronounced it Keer-ah.
Kyra
The Kyra i knew did pronounce it like Keira.

Oh, I'm sure there are those that do -- but I wouldn't. Based on normal English pronunciation it should be KYE-ra... much like the name Kyle is not pronounced KEEL. I suppose people can get away with Kyra = KEERa with minimal annoyance because of the sheer popularity of Kee- names and of the letters K and Y, and because of the word kyrie (which is one of those words that retains a non-English pronunciation, rather than one of those that is deliberately mispronounced).
I really don't mean to sound snotty here, but I know I must. I'm tired and hormonal. =( I do prefer the sound of KEER-a but I just wouldn't pronounce Kyra that way, and I'd be surprised if *most* English speakers (at least in the US where I live) do. *shrug* Your mileage may vary.
