Louise/Louisa
How come, that it's not in the top 1000 in the US for almost two decades now!? I can't think of anything being wrong with the name, for me it has the same class as Charlotte, Amelia and Elizabeth, kind of European, noble sounding. Am I missing something? Why is it not more popular? Opinions please! TIA!

Love it!
This is one of my sister's names and as far as I'm concerned she got the best one. My name's Rachael and the other is Meigan (prn. MEE-gan). I've always the name Louisa although I'm not really liking Louise, its always seemed quite plain. I'm with you, though, it has a much class as Amelia and Elizabeth and I really can't understand why its not very popular.

I think it is used quite a lot as a middle name so its just sort of fallen into that spot. I quite like Louisa though.
I don't think it is going completely unused in the states, I think it is more commonly used as a mn. In fact its a bit of a filler mn, when nothing else seems to fit Louise probably will. It is a nice enough name, but it has a little bit of old fashioned-ness to over come in an age when creative spellings, trendy names, surnames, and gender neutral names are ruling the top 1000. As older names climb the charts, Louise or Louisa will make its way back in.
I just don't think it has caught on yet with parents. I think the people that are having children now still view it as 'pretty, but unusable', along the same lines as Jemima and Tallulah.
Actually, I think it's kind of good that it's not more popular. I'd hate to see it reach the heights of Emma and Emily. :(

I personally like both, but my love for the name really began with a dear mentor by the name of Louise. I think Louise sounds more "old-lady-ish" than Louisa, which seems more classic. My only problem with it is the EEZE sound at the end of the name which is rather annoying to me in the same way as ZANN at the end of Suzanne. I would personally use it as a middle name, and my current favorite combo is Anna Josephine Louise.
I agree with you completely, and I don't know why it's unpopular. It's just an undiscovered gem, I suppose.
I have no idea. I totally agree with you.
