Love it.I adore Peter, it's one of my top five boys names! I hate Pete, too, and Petey, but since I can't think of any other nn's for Peter, maybe you could use a nn from the mn, though I don't think Peter needs a nn. My first association tends to be Narnia or Simon Peter.

I really like the name Peter, but dislike Pete. I would use Peter as a mn to avoid the nn

I really, really like it :) It's my brother's name, so maybe I'm a little biased, but I like it a lot!
Although I personally like the full name Peter best, I think the nn Pete will be unavoidable, unfortunately. I can't really think of any other nn's, either :S Sorry!
If you ever decide to name a son Peter, you can always call him Peter in full yourself, but be prepared for other people to shorten it...

I'm not sure about how I feel about Peter. The nickname Pete never seems to work on a child for me. I know my mum likes the name Peter, my sister would have been called Peter, that's if she was a boy.

Its currently my number 2 name for a boy, so I love it. Its handsome, strong and timeless. I don't like Pete all that much either, but I plan to use P.D as a nn (kind of like Petey) when my hypothetical Peter is little (he would be Peter Declan) and probably just call him Peter when he is older.
I think initial nns are cute with Peter, like PJ, PK, PW etc.

I agree, Pete is ugly to me.But I do like the name Peter (When I'm not thinking about Family Guy, *shutters*). I like the femineme (sorry on spelling), Petra, better.

I love Peter! I don't think it needs a nick name. I love Spiderman!

Perrin! Perrin (Perrine) is a nn for Pierre. That's what we plan to use on one of our future children.

I love the name Peter, but I also like Pete.

I really like Peter and Pete. I almost prefer Pete to Peter, lol! So not much help for you. I've always liked using variants of a name as a nn...so for Peter, I think Pierre or Pedro would be a great nn. WDYT of Petey? Or Patch, maybe...that's a stretch. Peach? Lol!

LOL, Patch is actually really cute!

Peter has really grown on me recently, although I tend to think of Peter Pan when I hear the name. It's traditional without being overused and I like the sophisticated feel of the name.Slightly off topic, but I've always enjoyed Maguire nn Maggie for a girl but the lately I've been liking Tobias nn Tobey for a boy, a tad much don't you say?! DH is a major super hero fan, he also likes Grayson (as in Dick Grayson / Robin), Laine (Lois Lane), etc.

haha I love Tobias nn Toby [I have since I started liking Tobey Maguire as an actor which has been a few years or more]. :). I actually like the combo Peter Parker! LOL. I usually like Parker on a girl, but I think Peter Parker is so cute on a boy! I like Spider-Man he's my fave superhero, and I like spiders so it doesn't bother me. I do think it's a bit much no?ETA: Infact I like Tobias Vincent as my Tobias combo which is Tobey Maguire's real name!

Peter Parker sounds great, but unfortunately makes me think of Peter Piper.
