While i really like the name Amos, the meaning is really harsh. Here on BTN they kind of mellow it out, but other sources quote it as meaning "encumbered" or "bearer of burdens". Not something i would like to bestow upon my son. Too bad, because it is a cool name for a boy.

i am not sure the meaning bothers me all that much.
Whilst i wouldn't name my dd Lolita because of the obvious sexual connection i dont think i would be lumbering my child to be a 'bearer of burdens' simply by naming him Amos.
Obviously a pretty meaning is desirable but i certainly am not going to be put off by a negative one.
