Gertrude is far too strong for me. I suppose it might work as a mn, but I would only use it if it were honoring someone. As far as nn's go, I like Tru better than True, don't ask me why.

It makes me think of Aunt Gertrude from the Hardy Boys books--not a bad person, but very sharp-tempered, opinionated, critical, and bossy.

I've never actually met anyone named Gertrude, so that's the overriding association I get. I also think of it as one of the stereotypical "old lady" names. I find it somewhat harsh sounding.

I like it okay, but it's one of those classic "ugly names," you know?

Trudy and True are nice nns.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the name Gertrude, as it is a family name. My favorite Gertrude combo is Gertrude Charlotte. :-)

Gertrude is probably one of the names that i HATE most. THere is nothing pretty, feminine or light about it. It is very heavy sounding. None of the sounds are at all atractive to my ears. Gert sound like "dirt", and trude is like "rude" and kind of looks like "turd".

I do kind of like Trudy and True as nicknames.

I'm not a fan of Gertrude and I would never name "my" child it but I like when older names come back and I have no problem with this on "somebody elses" kid. I think True is very cute. My favorite is Gertrude Pearl. Maria Gertrude is also very nice.

I don't really like it in English, but it's beautiful in the French pronounciation.

Gertrude was my late Grandma's name. Awesome woman, and i LOVE the name. Her nn was Gertie, which i adore. We called her Grandma Gertie. :)
