If she was Finnish, I'd buy it. We have tons of people of Finnish decent around here and have met more than one woman named Saara. So it's not totally unusual to me, though I'd be a bit surprised to hear it on someone who wasn't, like, a Keskimaki or a Loukinen or an Erkkila. I think it's a bit... lame, maybe is the word I'm going for, to take on another ethnicity's spelling for what essentially is just kicks.

I'd recommend Sari if she was bent on a change. It's still Finnish, but could passably be considered a nickname or pet name for Sarah. Sairy or Sadie could be options as well if she wanted a change from her usual.

For a second I thought she was changing her name to Finnish. I like the spelling Saara better than Sarah, but I bet she'll regret it when she has to keep telling people how to spell it. What's the point anyway? They both sound the same.

It's still going to sound like Sarah when she says it, and she'll just have to worry about spelling it for people. I kind of don't see the point. I mean, I'm a huge supporter of name changes in general, but unless you're changing it from Caah'rah, I don't understand changing it to the same form. To each her own, but it seems like more hassle than it's worth.

Sorry but I think that the Finnish spelling looks a little strange. My real name is Rachael and I've always hated the additional "a". It always seemed kind of pointless to me and I feel the same way about the two "a"s put together in Saara. I definitely prefer Sarah but its her choice in the end.

I think Sarai is a beautiful variant of Sarah and would advise you to recommend this to her. I absolutely love it! (hence the username!) :D

I think Sarah is much better. If I were her friend I would strongly advise her not to change her name.

Sarah in English is not pronounced like Saara in Finnish, so I would advise against it unless she wants to change the pronunciation of her name as well.

I can see where she's coming from, but I don't really think it's necessary. People are going to pronounce it the same way, no matter how she decides to spell it. I agree that Sarah is very popular here, but why not change it to a different English variant? Sally, Saranna, Sarina, Sadie, Sarita?
