Pronunciation of Emil?
Do you know how this name is pronounced? I think it's "e-meel", but was wondering if it should be spelt Emile for this pronunciation.

I've always prn it EH-muhl or EH-mil, but around here, people prn it AY-mil. O_o In fact, when subbing at the local high school, I met an exchange student from Eastern Europe who was named Emil. He prn it EH-mil as I did/do, but all the other students called him AY-mil.

Emil was my grandfather's name......and in German it's pronounced EH-mill.

I've heard it said both eh-MEEL and AY-mil. I prefer the first pronunciation.

I once had a teacher who pronounced it AY-mill.

I believe Emil is eh-MEEL and Emile is ay-MEEL, or something to that effect.

eh-MEEL in English, E-mil in German and Polish, and ay-MEEL in French (but that spelling is Emile).

It's a common name where I live, however, with the "e". And pronounced, "Ay-meal."

W/out the last e it looks like "em-ill" to me. If you like "e-meel", I would spell it with the final e.

I pronounce it eh-meel, the first sound the same as in egg. Sorry, forgot to add, Emile is a better choice for your preferred pronouncation imo.
