Viola or Rosalie?
I also posted this under the interactive polls, but which name do you prefer: Viola or Rosalie?Feel free to include a rationale for why you prefer one over the other. I'm just so torn. I love them both.

How do you pronounce Rosalie?I say ROZ-a-lee, with the o like in rock. It's a very tough choice, but personally I would go for Rosalie because I'm a viola player and naming a child Viola would be very corny! If that's not taken into account though, VY-oh-la might win.I can't decide either!

Viola. Rosalie is pretty, but if I had to pick Viola is way nicer to use as a name.

Viola is one of my favorite names in the world! I think it's a classic!

Rosalie.Viola is ok, but it always felt very harsh to me. I like Violet more, it sounds a little less harsh in my ears for some reason. Of course I feel Rosalie can be limp. It depends how you are pronouncing it. Is it roz-AH-lee, or rose-AH-lee to you. I've heard it said both ways. I like roz-AH-lee more personally, because the other way is the one that feels limp to me. I also love Rosaline and Rosalind. Also Viola and Violet makes me think of the violin, and the viola. Yet it also makes me think of violence and violent. Viola also makes me think of the Ebola virus.EDIT: I just read a bunch of what of people said. I didn't realize there were so many different ways to pronounce Viola. Thinking about it I really like Viola if pronounced veo-LAH or vio-LAH. It's the whole pronouncing the O extra harash that I don't like about the name. If pronounced either of these ways I like the name Viola just as much as Rosalie prn roz-AH-lee.

Rosalie. I like the option of calling her Rosie or Rosa.

I'd pick Viola. I dislike Rosa/Rose names as fn and only like Rose as a mn. Viola is just beautiful.

Rosalie is nice, but ROSE- names in general are overdone, and it feels slightly more informal, like a cute NN for Rosalyn. I do like, though. That being said, I much prefer Viola. It feels fresher.

I love Rosalie. It's one of my favorite Rose- names, but it's not yet overused or trendy. I prefer Violet to Viola (which I pronounce VY-lah or VY-uh-lah, but I dislike vy-OH-lah and vee-OH-lah), though the former seems to be gaining in popularity. :-/ So I think Rosalie is nicer, but you can't go wrong with either.

Rosalie. I don't like Viola at all. I link it to Violet, which I hate. Rosalie, however, I like. Just don't call her Rosie.

Rosalie - it's pretty and charming. I find Viola very unattractive.

I'm going to go with Rosalie...it has a sweetness to it that just grabs me.

Viola, because I associate that with Shakespeare and Evey Hammond, whereas Rosalie is Flora Baumbach's "Mongoloid child" in The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin (and that's not a negative association so much as a sad one). But like Bear, I'd rather it pronounced VIE-uh-lah.Array

"Mongoloid child" -- I'm SO glad this is not a term used anymore. Sad, for sure. :-/

Hmmm...I much prefer Violet to Viola, and Rosalina to Rosalie, so it's hard to pick. I guess Rosalie, because Viola sounds unfinished.

I just voted for Viola. But I only like it if it is pronounced, "VIE-uh-la." The "vie-O-la" pronuncation drives me crazy. I love Rosalie too. Both are beautiful names.

Viola... (sorry, this was intended to be under main post)Rosalie is just too cutesy for me, but if you like it, that's great. I like Viola a lot though, it was my greatgrandma's name, so if I used it, it would be to honor her. But I like vie-O-la. It strikes me as very classy.
