Rowan

I'd choose Rowan, because Roman reminds me of (A) Romans and (B) a character from Rosemary's Baby. To me it's more of an adjective than a name. I don't find it tacky or distasteful, though, just not my style.
I actually like Rowan, not only when I'm choosing between the two. It has a natural feel to it, given the association to the trees and all. It seems pleasant, whereas Roman seems stuffy.
