Esmé is okay, but not anything that I'm really excited about. I agree with you that the spelling you mentioned is better for a boy; Esmé is the masculine form, while Esmée is the proper feminine form.

I love this name. I like the spelling Esmé for both sexes, and Esmée for a girl :-)

I doubt I'd actually use Esmé as a boy's first name though - it's very effeminate: more so than most guys could pull off. I'd be more likely to use it as a middle name.

I think it is one to grow on me. I prefer it on a boy, but it would be fine on a girl also.

I like it - and prefer it for a girl, even though I realise it originated as a male name. My parents' cat was called, Esme, when I was a little kid. ;)
