Middle name for Alanna
I am due in March and my husband and I really like the name Alanna/Alana for a girl. My husband and father and brother's middle names are all Alan and it is my father-in-law's first name. So we can't pass up the chance to honor so many people with one blow, but we like the girl's name Alanna much more than the male version. So....anyhow...long story short. We are looking for a middle name. I want one that starts with M. The trick is that most girl's names that start with M end with A which makes a bad kind of blend with Alanna which is chock full of A. So, we're stuck. I like names which are unusual. I'll tell you some names we've considered just to give you an idea of what we like....

My husband has decided he hates Maggie...I think its the maggot thing. Oh well. I loved it too. I think Alanna Maisie is cute...although it does make me think of the "lazy bird" from Dr. Suess. :o) And my sister's name is Melody! I like Meg too but I'm not sure its enough of a proper name for me...feels a little nnish.

That's really pretty! I'm not sure if my husband will go for Maeve though. But, I love it...I'll mention it just in case.
I don't care for Alanna (I think I prefer the spelling Alannah), and since it'd be honoring people, I'd only use it as the middle name. Sorry, but I don't care for your middle name choices. I suggest Alanna Mary and Alanna Margo.

I love the sound of Mary and the solid old fashioned-ness. I am not a big fan of the meaning.
You must have a rule in your family that says you're not aloud to use a name after another family member unless it is a middle name. I am not familiar with this.

No...
I just said I'd use it as the middle name because I don't care for it. But, I'm pro-honoring, so even though I don't care for the name, I'd still want to incorporate into the child's name, hence using it as the middle name.
I'm pro-honoring via first name, middle name, using exact spelling, variation of name, different spellings of the name, or same letter initial.
