Joaquin
I just got done watching the movie Ladder 49 with my dad, he is a retired fireman so it meant a lot to him and I decided I love the name Joaquin. That is the real life name of the main guy in the movie, Joaquin Phoenix. What do you think of this name? I have heard it pronounced ho-a-keen. I don't even know if that is right, but I love it. I would never be able to use it, being American everyone would say Jo-quin. Anyways maybe i'm just really loving it because of the movie and I was very emotional watching it, so i'll stop now i'm sure you're getting bored but anyways, opinions!p.s. If you're looking for a good cry I highly recommend Ladder 49, or if you like John Travolta, it's my favorite movie now!Auntie to: Robert, Brady, Juliana & Sophia.
Auntie again soon! Sister-in-law is...Lilypie Baby Ticker

Joaquin is pronounced like WAH-keen. It's also the name of Kelly Ripa's youngest son (she's from Live with Regis & Kelly). I have heard, however, that he sometimes goes by the nn of "Joe". lolJoaquin Phoenix is the younger brother of the late River Phoenix. Some of you here might be too young to remember him but he was in a ton of movies, including Stand By Me. When Joaquin was very young, he decided to change his name. I read that he thought his name was "Walking" because his siblings had very nature-y names (River, Rain, Liberty & Summer) so he decided to go by the name Leaf. He was billed by the name Leaf Phoenix as a child actor in the movies "Space Camp" and "Russkies". If you couldn't tell, I know a lot about the Phoenix family. :b I was a huge River Phoenix fan from age 12 on and I've been fascinated by the family ever since, and I LOVE Joaquin. BTW, I loved "Ladder 49" too. :)ETA: Joaquin Phoenix goes by "Joe", not Kelly Ripa's son. lol

Phoenix's...River Phoenix is still probably one of my favorite actors...tragic death. :::sigh:::I read that since "the ladies" cannot pronounce his name, Joaquin Phoenix says to them, "Call me Kitty." ;)

I don't like Joaquin, but I do really love Joachim. (I'd be using the JO-a-kim pronunciation.) I think that Joaquin Phoenix is familiar enough to Americans that the average person would know to say wah-KEEN and not JO-uh-kwin, though.Array

I didn't like it when I first heard it but now it's actually growing on me, I wouldn't name my child it, but I like it. It's also the name of Kelly Ripa's third child (that's when I heard of it).~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And the world keeps spinning...

Joaquin Phoenix (who went by Leaf Phoenix for some of his early career), pronounces his name as Wa-KEEN. Kelly Ripa's son is also named Joaquin. I don't care for it. I just find it odd sounding, and the potential pronunciation and spelling problems turn me off.I do like his late-brother's name, River.
