Madelyn's not French, as others have pointed out. Madelyn's a modern English spelling variant of Madeline created to 1. reflect a(comparatively rare) alternate pronunciation of the English usage of Madeline, MAD-e-lin, and 2. cash in on the -lyn suffix trend for girls.
The French form of Madeline is Madeleine or Madeline only.
I actually like Madelyn, though. Certainly, it's much more substantial than Kaylyn or Jaylyn, and it seems like Madelyn's on its way to becoming a legit spelling variant like Carolyn or Elinor has. I also like Madeline (pr. mad-e-LIEN) and Madeleine (pr. ma-de-LEN). My personal favourite of the three is Madeline, though for others it all depends on the context which form I prefer.
