I prefer it as a surname. If I was forced to choose, I would say boy, but only if it is a family surname.

If it must be used, definitely for a boy. A place name / surname like that one seems unsuitable for a woman, in my opinion, because place names ("-ton") sound passive on women, and surnames as first names sound impersonal (or even unfriendly or self-important) to me. On a guy, it is more natural, since males are often called by their surnames anyway and it isn't insulting.- chazda

Carrington is too surname-y to be a formal name, for my liking. But, I'd only see it on a boy, yet I don't think it's suitable for either gender. Also, if you wouldn't mind, please consolidate your posts into as few as possible, since with each post you make, another post gets pushed off of the message board.
