It makes me think of Ernest P. Worrel, the Jim Varney character. Anyone remember that? I loved him, so the kid would have quite a legacy to uphold!

Ernestina

3. Ernesto "Che" Guevara; dh wants to name a dog Ernesto
4. Ernst Lubitsch (sp?)
5. Max Ernst (& Georgia O'Keefe)

I like Ernest, but I don't prononce it like English speakers but like French: air-nest.I LOVE Erna (air-nah). Ernestine (air-ness-teen) is cute too.

I cannot see Ernest as a name, because of the word earnest. I find it a very ugly sounding name, sorry. I know one man named Ernest (he's in his mid-60s) - he hates his name, and he only goes by Ernie. The play The Importance of Being Ernest by Oscar Wilde comes to mind (despicable play, I think). But, I do not let stereotyping or associations bother me. I just don't like the sound of the name.
