Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew the correct pronunciation of the name Zhenya. I'm thinking it's ZEN-yah or ZEN-ee-ah. Please clarify.

Zhenya is a Russian nn for Yevgeni' (= Eugene) (yev-GHENN-ee).

Zhenya is pronounced "ZHENN-ya." The first sound is like Dr. Zhivago.

I forgot to mention . . .

. . . that I studied Russian in college and have met Zhenyas. I don't know how Westerners would pronounce it, but I do know how Russians would.

In Russian, "zh" is pronounced like the sound in French "j'adore" (thinking of Dr Zhivago). So I suppose just ZHEN-yuh?

I would say ZHEN-yah, just as it looks. The "zh" sound would be like a French J.

I would do it ZEN-yah, but that's just me.
