I pronounce Maia and Maya the same. Maia is more Greek/Roman and Maya more Indian/Native American. In Sweden Maja is pronounced the same way and is a form of Maria.

Mara means "nightmare" in Swedish, I would prefer Miriam, Maria or Mariah. I like Mira, Mia and Mila. Mina is ok but I prefer Minna (I don't pronounce those two the same).

Maeve is pretty and Irish but I prefer names with more than one syllable, easier to shout :)
