Marcel, Lola and Rafael
What do you all think of these two names?Marcel came to my mind because its Hungarian version, Marcell is rising in popularity right now (mostly because the nn Marci is extremely trendy - yep, it's used for a boy here). I wonder if you like it.Rafael is a recently discovered favourite; strangely, I dislike Raphael - with a ph, it looks weak - but I like Rafael. Is it too Spanish to be used on a non-Hispanic kid, or is it all right. And, last but not least: Lola. This is the name of a very cute kitten at the hospital of my uni, and she made me like her name. Does Lola stand alone, or you'd only use it as a nn for Dolores? And would the three work well as a sib set?(edited to add question about the set)

For some odd reason I can't stand the name Lola. Which is odd, because I adore Lila. They would be nice as a sib set. I think Rafael is a bit to Hispanic sounding to be used on a non-Hispanic kid, but the name is okay. Marcel sounds made up (I know it isn't, but I can't help myself).

I should like Marcel, but I can't warm up to it. I can't stand the girl's name Marcie, so I think that's what influencing me. (Do you live in Hungary?)I don't think the "f" spelling of Rafael is limited only to Spanish/Hispanic boys. As long as a name has history and meaning to it, why not?Lola. This name seems to be on the rise. I just can't get the Barry Manilow song out of my head when I see it. I do like the name Dolores, though. If you do use Lola, I would like to see it as a nn for Dolores. (BTW, can anyone tell me which spelling a Spaniard would traditionally use: Delores or Dolores? I'm never sure.)

I think Dolores is the original Spanish form, but I'm not sure. And yes, I'm Hungarian, and I live in Budapest :-)

Marcel: nms, probably because it is an "old" name in France.
Rafael: very beautiful, but I prefer Raphael. I have a cousin named Rafael, a Jewish Canadian of Greek, Dutch and Polish origins. His sisters are Atarah and Avital (Hebrew form of Abital).
Lola: I find it trashy (but way better than Lolita!). Dolores is beautiful, but so sad! Lola is very cute on a kitten though.

The only name I like is Lola. It's a formal name to me - not a nickname. I do not see it coming from the name Dolores.

I think they go well together. I dont really like Rafael. Sorry, but I think it could be used on a non-spanish kid. Especially since you paired it with two not so common names. I love Lola alone. Hate Dolores! Besides Dolores means many sorrows.Know God, Know Peace

I don't think they go too well in a sibset as Marcel seems French to me, Raphael / Rafael Italian and Lola Spanish I love Rafael / Raphael but I'm liking Rafferty more at the momentLola I think is a cute nn for Dolores or Charlotte, but not on its ownMarcel is nice, and very underusedAlice
