baby girl names
What are all of the nicknames you've heard for "Elizabeth" and "Katherine"? Do you know many kids in the U.S. that are called either of these names in full?

Yes, there are many people who go by their full names. And you didn't ask, but I like them both :).

I know both Katherine's and Elizabeth's called by their full names. My sister Elizabeth is called Beattie, but it has nothing to do with her name. She is also called Liz and Lizzy by close friends and family.Katherine -

I love the name Elizabeth; however, I prefer it spelled Elisabeth. I think of one of the few people that likes it as a full name without any nicknames, but there are a few that I think are cute. Here are some of the NNs I have heard:
Ella
Ellie
Beth
Lily
Lily-Beth
Liz
Lizzie / Lizzy
Libby
Betty
Betsy
Lizbeth
Eliza
LizaI also really like the name Katherine; however I prefer the spelling Kathryn. There are also the spellings Katheryn, Katharine, Catherine, Catharine, Cathryn, & Catheryn. Again, I like the full name, but there are a couple of NNs that are cute imo. Here are some of the ones I have heard:
Katie / Catie
Kate / Cate
Kathy / Cathy
Kat / Cat

Most Elizabeth's I know go by Lizzy or Liz and I work with a Beth. I know a lot of Bettys and Betsys in the older generations.
Most of the young Elizabeths I know go by Elizabeth, and I have a very close friend, Elisabeth, who goes by Elisabeth and Lizi. Most of the Katherines I know use their full name. I had one Katherine friend in high school who went by Katie. One of my best friends is a Katherine who usually goes by Katherine, but will tolerate "Kat" from some friends. I just call her Katherine :-)

I know one Elizabeth, and she's only called Elizabeth. One girl called her Lizbeth on time, and she hated it. I know a Katherine (called Kay), Kathryn (called Kath and Kat), and a Catherine (no nickname).I do not think nicknames should be planned by the parent(s), but should be left up to the child.
