Benjamin sounds perfectly fine next to James. The "jam" sounds have different vowel sounds and the stress falls on another syllable in Benjamin.
I don't care for Bennett because it reminds me of Tony Bennett, kind of cheesy. ("I Left My Heart in San Francisco.") I've always loved the name Benedict, but now with the pope people might think you're more religious than you are. (Not a bad thing, just another layer to consider.)
