Owen

They're a *little* similar but I think they'd be OK for siblings, especially if Gwen is short for something else, e.g. Gwendolyn.
I like Owen, but it's just getting too popular, sadly. I like Owen Geoffrey in that spelling.

I don't see a problem with it, for mother and son. As siblings, I'd say no.
As for the name itself, I don't care for it. I just think it's very unflattering sounding.
This just came into my mind: "Oh, win for goodness sake!" :)

I love Owen.
And I don't think your name is too close to it for it to cause problems (and it's not like you're siblings, anyways).
Owen Jeffrey is nice, but unless you're really partial to that spelling, I prefer Owen Geoffrey. I think it goes better aesthetically with Owen (well, that and I just prefer that spelling anyways).

In writing, they appear too similar, but I don't think their pronunciations are that similar. I still wouldn't use them together, though.

Actually not at all. I like it!
It looks somewhat similar, but the pronounciations are completely different - so I'd go for it. Besides, you'd be mother & son - not siblings so I don't think it should matter at all. Furthermore, my DH loves Owen and so I've developed a real soft spot for it.
