I think it's very trendy, but not overly popular. I don't like the name, but I prefer it for a boy, and not on a girl, even though I find Tristan to be too feminine for a boy (I don't see it as a strong sounding name). I can see a Tristan at any age, but one would be able to judge his age by the trendiness, dating it to the early years of 2000, etc.
