Deacon...
WDYT of the name Deacon for a boy? I like the way it sounds, but is the church deacon connotation too much? Is that the first thing you think when you hear it?

It's not a name for a child.

Deacon is one of my favorite names! I had actually never even considered it before, and I initially hated it when I heard that it was what Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon had named their son. But after a while it began to grow on me; the church deacon connotation doesn't even cross my mind.

I don't really like the sound.

DeaconI immediately think of church deacons, but that's because I work with them. Otherwise its a fairly cool soon, and not used too often. I mean, someone just named their son Bishop...why not Deacon?SIri

The first thing I think of is Reese Witherspoons son. I think it is nice a bit churchy but no more churchy than Christian. ~Kai

Ryan Phillipe and Reese Witherspoon . . .was the first thing I thought. I've seen this name discussed as a possibility on a few message boards since they used it on their son, so that's the first thing I thought of.Its like Ryder - which I never heard anyone consider until Kate Hudson and Chris Robinson used it. Now you see it around. My first thought is it belongs on a bad guy in a southern gothic novel or movie or TV show. It seems quite dramatic to me, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, depending on your tastes.

I do think of the cleric ranking, yes. But it's not as obvious as Priest or Bishop would be, and we give our children other occupational names (Hunter, Tayler etc). I could get used to Deacon and I like the sound._____________________________________________________________________"You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true."Elinor

The Church association is very strong
I dont like many occupation or title names ie Bishop Deacon Duke Prince - they seem rather pretentious to me
Though I admit as a word Deacon doesnt sound to bad

Yeah, that's the first thing I thought of when I read it - the church. Actually I didn't realise it was a name. How about Duncan? I personally don't like it, but it sounds similar.
