A woman named Laine, and her nickname of Lee / Leigh
I met a woman named Laine today, but she only goes by Lee / Leigh (I don't know which spelling). I didn't ask the reason behind why she only went by Lee / Leigh, and why that name as her nickname. What do you think?I would prefer Elaine with Laine as a nickname, and I like Leigh (that spelling for a girl only), but only as a middle name. I don't see Lee / Leigh as a nickname for Laine, and I wonder if it causes confusion for her.Edit: Corrected the subject...a day after I posted it. :)

Laine: sounds too masculine to me. Lane on a boy is all right, but still not a fave.Lee and Leigh are nms, and ould never understood why anyone liked it :-)Elaine is pretty, and I love her story. I would not use a nn.

I don't like Leigh as a middle name. It just seems like a pointless syllable to help the name flow better, and a middle name should have more meaning that than imo. I prefer Leigh on a male and Lee on a female, anyhow - and as a first name, though I wouldn't use them myself.I like Lane, in that spelling, for a girl. _____________________________________________________________________"You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true."Elinor

I like Lain for a girl (not a big fan of Laine, since the E seems so superfluous), and I can definitely see Lee as a nickname for it. I suppose it's a bit like Kiki and Mimi; those can go with pretty much any K or M name, so why shouldn't Lee? Actually, I think it's kind of cute, and it definitely sounds more professional than Lainey or something similar.Elaine isn't Elaine to me if it has a nickname. Then it's just something of a disappointment.Array

I like the name Laine for a woman, much more so than Elaine. I'm not too sure of how she got Lee / Leigh out of it, though!

Yeah, I totally agree with you too. Laine / Lane sounds quite masculine to me, and spelling it Laine looks like one of those those "I'll kre8ivlee spell a male name to make it feminine!" spellings. But I think Laine's very nice as a nn for Elaine, if the girl/woman chooses.

Laine sounds like a nickname in itself.
