Brooklyn?
Is Brooklyn really just female? I thought it could be a male name too? The database only says female.I rather like Brook or Brooke on a male.

I'm sure people are mentioning the Beckhams' son, whose name is Brooklyn, but that's honestly the only male Brooklyn I've ever heard of. I personally dislike it a lot on either gender. To me, it's a city, or just a "kre8tiv" name with Brooke + Lynn combined (and I dislike those names separately anyway :b).However, I kind of like Brook and Brooks on a boy, though I'd be afraid he'd get teased. I knew a little boy whose mn was Brooks (fn Kristian) and also a little girl named Brooks. I've I had to pick, though, I prefer it on a boy, for sure. (But not Brooklyn!)

I don't see any reason why Brooklyn couldn't be a male name. It's a place name, and I don't see how places get gendered. That said, however, this is a *very* down-market name (not trying to be judgmental; it's just the truth). Brook or Brooks would get the same sound and avoid the Brooklyn-Bronx types of associations.

The database is a bit random sometimes when it comes to giving a gender for unisex names. I like Brook on a male, but not Brooklyn - which I find too feminine, even though the first time I heard it was on the Beckhams' son._____________________________________________________________________"You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true."Elinor

I guess it could be for a boy. David Beckham named his son this (I think) but to me it is a girls name. I know a boy names Brooks but thats bc it is his last name and her has ppl call him thatNikki :)

Well, the name of his third son is Cruz and it's only a female name too. Anyway, I like Brooklyn for a boy.

I think it's only Brooks that's considered masculine.~Jesus walks on water. Jesus walks on land. Jesus rocks me in his arms. Holds my future in his hands.~

I see it as feminine, because of the names Brooke and Lynn / Lyn. I don't care for it though, as it's a place name to me, and I don't like place names.

No, I too like Brooklyn on a boy. I agree with MelH about that. And I also like Brooke for a boy. In a perfect world, I would prefer Brook for a boy and Brooke for a girl. But unfortunately my eyes don't like Brook as a name: it looks very incomplete to me. Therefore, to make my eyes happy, I'm forced to prefer Brooke regardless of which gender it's applied to.

I came across a little girl on the bus named Brooklyn. Victoria and Peter Beckham's eldest son is also named Brooklyn.

I have a male cousin named Brook so I've always seen it as male too. I think Brooklyn is usually thought of as feminine because of the trendy "lyn" ending. Most names that end in "lyn" are feminine, and plenty of parents believe that throwing "yn" on the end of name that ends in "in" or "on" will make it feminine. But, like Evelyn, I think Brooklyn can be used as a male name. I don't really like it on either gender.Mel

Mel..where did you get that cute pic of the penguins? I want to put it on my MSN pic.

I got it in an email a few months ago. I have a bigger version, but I had to resize it to put in photobucket. You can use it! Let me know if you want the bigger one.Mel

ahh..I saved it, but its only as a still photo. I don't know how to animate it.Anyway, thanks!!

That's weird. It doesn't save as .gif? If it saves as .gif then it should be animated. Maybe the program wont let it animate. Normally when I use MSN, the icons can't be animated even though the file is. They just use the first frame.Mel
